The attacks came shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Ukraine through the United States that it would retaliate after Ukraine launched 117 drone attacks on four Russian air bases over the weekend. Ukrainian officials said the attacks resulted in the loss of 41 strategic aircraft, although U.S. officials put the number of warplanes damaged at up to 20. US President Donald Trump has said of Russia's recent attacks on Ukraine that Ukraine has given Putin a reason to bomb them, adding that he has not yet decided whether to impose sanctions on Russia, but that he will do so if necessary.
